Eid Mubarak...

Now it's September... & it's still Syawal... In my country (Malaysia), Eid is the time where you'll find special dishes in most houses. My family has a tradition when it comes to dishes. One is the famous 'lemang', glutinous rice cooked with coconut milk in bamboo sticks. Theoretically, I know how to prepare the 'lemang' but I have never, in my entire life, done it unless helping my dad is considered. It looks kinda easy but I never try, so how will I know? The process of making 'lemang' begins with.. of course you have to find fine bamboo sticks, about the size of a small bottle in diameter. Hard to imagine? Fine... here's the photo...
Clean the bamboo & insert banana leaves inside, as shown above. The glutinous rice needs to be soaked for about 2 hours (may be?)... Then fill the bamboo with the rice... Be careful... Don't stuff the bamboo too much. Leave a few inches of space... Pour coconut milk, make it full... You can either burn it on slow fire for about 3-4 hours or steam it (but it took longer time)...

Instant Noodles... (seriously?...)

Ok, you might wonder why 'instant noodles'... Let me tell ya, some people probably don't know how to prepare it... About instant noodles, nostalgic... Those who have eaten it, they know instant noodles has brought people together, makes them smile... makes me smile... Wonderful... Remember college days? Time when money was hard, at the same time, trying to adapt to a new life, what did we do in order to survive? Instant noodles is just one part of it... Part of life...

Miss those?
If you do, get some...

1) First, grab a packet.
2) Boil water, 250 ml should be enough, or a little more...
3) Now that your water boils, drop the noodles... Of course you need to tear the packet...
4) The flavour then... If you're in low sodium diet, shed it to the right amount, half or quarter, your call...
5) Stir for 2 minutes... voila! You can break an egg into it...
6) I like it with ketchup... Tomato tastes great!

How To Boil Water?

No, no, no, I'm not talking about a talk show but I'm dead serious (Really? Hihi). How to boil water? Sounds easy, huh! Ok, try it with no modern home appliances... Not as easy as you thought unless you have learned survival skills from camps, military or anything relevant to surviving skills teaching. Blah blah blah (blabbing much)...  Fine, I'll start...

HOW TO BOIL WATER (JUST WATER; PLAIN WATER)

Assume that you have a kettle at home. A kettle, the old type. Not the whistling kettle, not the automatic electric kettle.

Fill it with water.

Turn on the heat.

Wait until you see bubbles get crazy - lots of bubbles trying to get to the air (I'm sure you know what I mean).

Done!

Don't forget to turn off the heat/stove.

That's your first lesson.

SAFETY TIPS:

1. Never ever touch the hot kettle.

2. Keep away inflammable objects from your stove.

3. Don't look too close to the boiling water. It's really hot.

See you next post... May be we can talk about a cup of tea..........since we can't drink in here...

That's all...

Now I Want To Start?

Ok, as I'd mentioned earlier in my previous post (actually my first), this blog will be about cooking; C-O-O-K-I-N-G; = COOKING ! The first thing I learned about cooking is = How to boil water... Sounds easy but as a kid, like 8 or 9 years old, I don't think it's easy especially when I might have pyrophobia or Traumatophobia ... But then, as I grew older, cooking is just like doing experiments in school lab, you know, like the right measure of the ingredients is just like pouring the exact 10ml solution into another solution... Umm, no... Cooking is not as complicated as Science experiments... Cooking is way better... You don't have to go to school to learn it. You can D-I-Y... Oh, in case you don't understand what D-I-Y is; it's Do-It-Yourself.... This is just the beginning... Let me bring you to the real world of COOKING! See you in my next post!

About This Blog

This blog will be all about any interesting things... about my life, experience, drama, learning... anything around me... BUT... the first thing, this blog will be about my cooking experience from the very beginning... It's like another journey in my life that I rarely talk about but here... It's more comfortable talking about it here... Why cooking? I'm not so good in cooking but I like experimenting the ingredients, flavours, spices, herbs... anything related to cooking. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. The thing is, I've been cooking since 9 years old... but never been so good... I guess I'm not talented but I have the passion for it. I think everybody should know that I was inspired by Julie/Julia Project so I believe I can start this blog... Enjoy exploring....
